Hakata Dontaku Port Festival
Celebrated for over 800 years, the Hakata Dontaku Port Festival includes about 33,000 participants and brings about 2 million visitors from all over Japan for this two-day celebration. With dance troupes taking over the 1,270-meter-long Meiji Street, and 30 stages with different events and performances scattered throughout the venue, this massive festival brings together the whole community as the town springs up with color. With different costumes, instruments, floats and dances, this fun occasion is the best way to spend your Golden Week. Be it with a shamisen, taiko drum or wooden spoons, get involved in this celebration and be a part of this uniquely Fukuoka-born tradition.
