The General’s Wisteria Tree

The General’s Wisteria Tree was dedicated as a memorial to Imperial Prince Kanenaga (General of Western Japan) who prayed to Onakaomi Shrine after he was injured at Ohobaru Battle in 1359 and fully recovered. The tree is estimated to be about 600 years old and is a Municipally-Designated Protected Species. The General’s Wistera Tree Festival takes place from late April to early May every year.
*About the Wisteria Tree: Circumference at base – 3 meters (9.8 feet); circumference at midsection – 2 meters (6.6 feet); branches begin at a height of 1.7 meters (5.6 feet) from the ground; branches spread out over a 2 meter (6.6 feet) tall scaffolding structure with an area of 204 square meters (2,196 square feet).
