The water welled up while Mt. Shaka tunnel was being constructed near JR Chikuzen-Iwaya Station (Hita-Hikosan Line). In June 2008, it was certified by the Environment Ministry as one of ”the best water of Heisei era”. About 15,000 tons of water springings out from the tunnel everyday. The soft water is sold for 100 yen per 30 liters. In the neighborhood are some magnificent sightseeng spots such as ”Terraced rice fileds in Take area”, which is selected as one of the Top 100 Terraced Paddy Fields, ”Iwaya Shrine”, is designated as a national important cultural treasure and ”Oddly-shaped rock outcroppings”, a special natural treasure etc. Enjoy firefly watching at night aound Hoshuyama river from the middle of May to the beginning of June.
