Tsuruoka Hachiman Shrine

Tsuruoka Hachiman Shrine is found on top of a little mountain in Kawara Town in Tagawa District. Here enshrined are Emperor Ojin, Empress Jingu, and Toyotama-hime also known as goddess Otohime mentioned in the Kojiki. It’s been said that Chinzei Hachiro Tametomo, also known as Minamoto no Tametomo, is the forbearer of this 850 year-old Shinto shrine.
Fall festivity of Yabusame held here every year toward the end of October is a domestically well-known event, drawing a large number of crowd from all over the country.
The shrine was also used for shooting Fuji Television drama series ”Tokyo Tower -Mom and Me and Sometimes Dad-” back in 2007.
