Mojiko Retro Train ”Shiokaze-go” – Yamagin Retro Line –

Mojiko Retro Train Shiokaze-go is an ultramarine blue cute tram composed of a mini sized diesel locomotive and two passenger cars that runs into the salt breeze of the ocean through a town with the atmosphere from the Taisho Era (1912-1926). The train starts from Kyushu Railway History Museum Station just outside of JR Mojiko Station, and passes through a tunnel after the Idemitsu Museum of Art and Norfolk Square Stations, after which it arrives at the last station, Kanmon Strait Mekari Station. The elegant town scape of Mojiko Retro Area and the magnificent Kanmon Channel spread out of the train’s windows, and passengers can enjoy an exhilarating short trip while the train chugs along the 2.1 kilometers (1.3 miles) in about 10 minutes.
The train runs regularly on Saturdays, Sundays, and National Holidays from March 13, Saturday to November 28, Sunday in 2010. During the long holiday seasons and summer vacation it is operated daily.
The ”Clover Ticket”, with which passengers can enjoy the Kanmon Area riding on four means of transportation on land and over the sea, is particularly recommended. After arriving at Mekari Area by Shiokaze-go, passengers are taken around the richly green Mekari Park by the Mekari Spectacular Landscape Bus. Then, they walk through the only pedestrian undersea tunnel in Japan to Shimonoseki on Honshu (the main island of Japan), and ride the Sanden Bus to Karato Area, which is famous for its market and aquarium. Lastly, the Kanmon Steamboat brings them back to Moji Port from Karato, finishing the round trip.
Why not try this new way to enjoy the Kanmon Area?
*When the pedestrian tunnel is closed due to construction, a bus free of charge will to detour will be operated (subject to change).
