Buzo-ji, Kyushu’s oldest temple
When the god of scholarship Sugawara no Michizane (Tenjin) entered Buzo-ji, Kyushu’s oldest temple at the foot of Tenpaizan, it is said that he carved his own life size wooden seated statue and offered it to ”Gojisaku Tenmangu” next to the temple. The doors of ”Gojisaku Tenmangu” are opened and Tenjin’s work is unveiled three times a year, on the First Tenjin, January 25th, the spring festival on April 25th, and the autumn festival on October 25th.
