Chichi-no-Kannon Spring

Behind the Kannon-do is a massive rock wall; water trickles from the middle on the left and right. Since ancient times the people here came to believe that this water was sacred water, and there is a remaining legend that states that if a woman who is having trouble producing breastmilk draws water from this spring and then cooks herself a meal of rice gruel with it, she will then be able to make plenty of milk. For this reason, the Thousand-armed Kannon image that is enshrined here is also called the ”Chichi-no-Kannon” (Kannon of Milk); even today, many people come to draw water daily from this sacred spring.
