Sakurai Futamigaura Blue Hour
It is said that the Ise Futamigaura of the sunrise is married to the Sakurai Futamigaura of the sunset; together, these two rocks form a symbol of happy marriage. Just after sunset on clear days, a beautiful view presents itself. Since ancient times, this spot has been revered as part of the grounds of the Sakurai-jinja Shrine (a prefectural cultural asset); in May of every year, during the spring’s low tide period, a 30-meter, nearly 1-ton ’ooshimenawa’ (Great Sacred Rope) is used to tie the rocks together. The ’Blue Hour’ is a time period in which the sky becomes a deep blue color just before sunrise and just after sunset.
