Shiraito Falls, literally meaning “The Falls of White Strings,” is a Fukuoka Prefecture-designated scenic spot in Itoshima City. The Falls drop at 24 meters, creating a truly stunning sight. The area is popular among families with children who have plenty of opportunities to play in the surroundings. In late June and early July, the site gets painted in all shades of purple, blue and pink when some 100,000 hydrangeas are in full bloom. There are many exciting activities near the Shiraito Falls, too: fish for some fresh yamame trout or taste the summer favorite, nagashi somen — a fun, typically summer tradition of eating thin noodles by catching them as they slide down a bamboo chute.
